Try something new

Have you ever eaten one of these??

It’s not a grapefruit.  Its rind is much thicker.

It is the largest citrus fruit and typically weighs about 2-3 pounds.

It tastes like a sweeter version of a grapefruit and does not have any of the grapefruit’s bitter taste.

It’s a pummelo!

The membrane around the segments is bitter and very tough but the flavor of the fruit is wonderful.  Cayden and I love them.  I am not sure of the availability in your area but they are seldom available in Fargo.  Anytime Cayden and I see one, we grab it.

If you come across one, take it home and try it.  You’ll love it!

Actually I have seen and had these in Taiwan and Hong Kong where they are called Chinese grapefruit or pomolo by us "gwai louh" who never learn the Chinese word for anything. And the best grapefruit I have ever had was in Taiwan. The breakfast buffets at the hotel restaurants are a smorgasbord (to culturally mix my metaphors) of exotic fruits.

I don't play the lottery. I use to play the lottery but I lose more time than I win. And it really makes me mad to think that I lost good money...in the lottery. The lottery is so appealing too. It looks like you could win...it seems to be pretty good chances but I lose more than I win.
Fruit...especially citrus fruit & the melon family is the lottery. I spend time looking at the oranges and grapefruit...squeezing them (Mr. Whipple would be glad of that!), looking in detail of the color, checking for by spots, and the big test smelling them! Same thing for the melon family – color, spots, and the thump test. Then I Start the task of getting them home without someone dropping them, juggling them, or trying to bounce them cause hey look like a ball - perfect for a 2 year old!! Once this fruit has a safe place in the frig for the night to chill...I wait for them to get cold for the next morning breakfast.
The next morning...with great anticipation I scratch my first winning ticket…I mean I cut into my first – the prettiest of the bunch and…and…nothing. Too sour…not done enough…bitter…or tough. It stinks to get a TOUGH orange or a melon that is messy already and it is not good. I give...
I may have to try a L.C. fruit but it’s a gamble. I will admit…I have been betting on the Cuties and they have a pretty good return rate!
There.
Maybe I should have blogged about this?
Maybe I should seek help with this?
Here I am….just splashing away in my little pool.
Love you!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

I've never noticed them either, but will definitely look next time and try it if I find one. I agree with Tina about the "lottery" thing. I think it's because we live in the Sahara of Texas and all fruit must be shipped in. Therefore it was picked very green and it just doesn't taste the same. Oh well, summer will be here before we know it.
